Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Major General B C Khanduri
(Retd), inaugurated a 58-km four-lane highway on the Manor-Bassein Creek
section of NH-8, on 12 June 2001.
This
highway, connecting Ghodbunder (near Bhayander in Thane) and Manor (near
Dahanu), is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH-8). The highway
lies between milestone Km 439 and Km 496.
The Rs.200 crore project forms part of
the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) Project that aims to inter-connect Mumbai,
Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi. This is the first completed segment of the GQ
project in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Public Works Department,
the project implementing agency, had begun project work in November 1997.
