Indian Railways will set up a metro and rail coach manufacturing facility in Latur in Maharashtra.
The metro and rail coach manufacturing facility will be built on public-private partnership (PPP) basis.
The project is likely to entail an investment of Rs 1,500 crore. The investment and the number of coaches to be made are yet to be decided.
The rail coach factory project has received in-principal approval. The facility will cater to the demands of metro coaches in cities across India along with the captive demand from Indian Railways.
The plant will manufacture electric multiple units for suburban trains and coaches for metros.
