JSW Steel has
commissioned its 3 million tpa blast furnace at Vijaynagar plant in Karnataka on 18 February
2009.
The furnace was
commissioned within 31 months. With this capacity addition, JSW will be able to
produce 7.8 million tpa of steel. Currently, JSW has 4.8 million tpa capacity,
which includes 1million tpa of Salem unit.
Meanwhile, the
company's expansion plans for the Vijaynagar unit are on track for which the
company has achieved financial closure. As per the expansion plans, the capacity
of Vijaynagar facility will be ramped up to 10 million tpa. The company is also
in the advance stage of setting up a 5 million tpa hot strip mill, which will be
commissioned in the second half of the 2009-10.
