Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) has earmarked Rs 200 crore-project
to develop a Medi City in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, as a part of its expansion
plans.
The proposed Medi City spread over 25 acre is likely to comprise a 300-bed
cancer hospital, a 100-bed paediatrics wing, and an eye hospital.
The project to be completed in three phases is also likely to have
institutions for graduate and post-graduate courses in medicine, paramedical
sciences and hospital administration.
In Phase I expansion, a 150-bed block has to be built to meet the immediate
demand for more in-patient bed facility. This is expected to take the total bed
strength to 500. Five well-equipped operation theatres, a 20-bed modern
intensive care unit and an advanced dialysis facility are also to be
established.
Besides, KMCH is building the cancer hospital with seven operation theatres
in Phase III. The construction of the cancer hospital is expected to be
completed by June 2010. This wing is likely to take the total health care
facility area in the KMCH from five lakh to 10-lakh sq ft.
Apart from this, separate buildings are to be constructed to house a
multi-cuisine cafeteria, a nursing hostel, a convention centre with two
conference halls, a library and 400-seat auditorium and a food court.
