Manipal Hospitals will acquire Pune-based Sahyadri Hospitals from global investor Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board in a deal estimated at around Rs 6,400 crore. Though the official deal size has not been disclosed, it is slated to be in the Rs 6,200–Rs 6,400 crore range.
The acquisition will add 11 hospitals to Manipal’s existing network, extending its footprint across Pune, Nashik, Ahilya Nagar, and Karad. Post-acquisition, Manipal Hospitals will operate 49 hospitals with a total bed capacity of approx.12,000, cementing its position as one of India’s largest hospital chains. Manipal Hospitals said it has signed definitive agreements with Ontario Teachers' for the acquisition. The move aligns with the Bengaluru-based healthcare major’s strategy to expand its pan-India footprint, especially in western India.
“With the strong partnership of stakeholders like Temasek, we are excited to grow our operations and bring Manipal’s trusted brand of quality healthcare to many more patients,” said Dilip Jose, MD & CEO, Manipal Health Enterprises. Ranjan Pai, Chairman, MEMG, added the acquisition would “strengthen Manipal’s presence in western India.” Temasek, Manipal’s key backer, reported a net portfolio value of Rs 324 billion as of 31 March, 2025.
