The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has signed two agreements with the Karnataka government to strengthen India’s space ecosystem.
The pacts include support for establishing a Centre of Excellence for Space Technology and setting up a space manufacturing hub in the state, with the hub’s exact location to be decided by the government. A proposal for a common technical facility in the upcoming cluster has also been submitted.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh informed Parliament that IN-SPACe has already supported more than 50 Bengaluru-based space start-ups, with five benefiting from its Seed Fund Scheme and Pre-incubation programme. These initiatives aim to accelerate innovation and commercial readiness of technologies. To broaden applications, IN-SPACe has introduced seed funding for sectors like agriculture, disaster management, urban planning, marine studies, and mission virtualisation.
Additionally, a Technology Adoption Fund and Space Applications Adoption Workshops are connecting private players with end-users. These steps underscore the government’s focus on fostering collaboration between industry, start-ups, and state agencies, positioning Karnataka as a key driver of India’s space economy.
