The Karnataka government will set up 6,500 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) and 5,000 nursery schools across the state in the coming years, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced at the inauguration of a new building at Chabbi village in Dharwad district.
“All the Karnataka Public Schools will have classes from 1- 12 in English and Kannada medium. One school will come up in each gram panchayat,” he said, adding that nurseries will provide rural students with pre-school training.
District In-charge Minister Santosh S. Lad recalled India’s literacy progress from 20-25 percent pre-independence to 75 percent today, while cautioning against rising unemployment and school closures. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced Rs 60 crore for painting 1,100 schools in Dharwad and cited CSR support for 400 schools, 31,600 desks, and 200 smart classes. Leaders, including Basavaraj Bommai and R Ashok, stressed urgent teacher recruitment and future expansion.
