The detailed project report (DPR) for the Kovvur–Bhadrachalam railway line, spanning 118.9 km has been completed.
Once operational, the Rs 1,695.71 crore project will reduce the Visakhapatnam– Hyderabad route by nearly 100 km, significantly improving travel efficiency. Eluru MP Mahesh Yadav announced that work would commence soon, citing his efforts in Parliament to push for expedited execution.
The proposed line will run from Sathupalli to Kovvur via Aswaraopeta, Jangareddygudem, and Devarapalli, with the entire cost funded by the Railways. The project is expected to benefit residents of Chintalapudi, Polavaram, Gopalapuram, Kovvuru, and surrounding constituencies, who have long awaited this link. Apart from enhancing passenger convenience, the new line is anticipated to boost regional economic activity by improving freight connectivity.
The DPR’s completion marks a major step towards bridging a key gap in Andhra Pradesh’s railway infrastructure, promising faster travel and better access for multiple districts.
