L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) has commissioned a casting yards in a 72-acre site in Hyderabad.
The casting site has ability to complete 450 segments per month and has facility to stock about 1,200 segments. Most of the casting work is handled offsite and then shifted to project site for installation. The company intends to set up another one to handle pre-cast works for the Rs 16,375-crore 72-km-long elevated metro rail project.
Currently, works on piers is underway. Four vendors for supply of rolling stocks have been short listed and negotiations are at are at an advanced stage. Bombardier, Hyundai-Rotem-BEML consortium, CAF of Spain and CSR of China are in fray for rolling stocks.
The decision in this regards is likely to be taken by July 2012.
