The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to operationalise its first compressed biogas (CBG) plant to process dairy waste in northwest Delhi’s Ghogha Dairy area (NarelaBawana Road) by September 26, officials have confirmed.
This facility is part of MCD’s broader plan to establish three biomethanation-based plants across the city—Ghogha Dairy, Okhla, and Ghazipur, which together are expected to process around 750 tonne of wet waste daily and generate clean compressed biogas suitable for vehicle fuel. The largest of these plants will be in Okhla, converting 300 tonne of municipal waste into fuel every day.
“We will see commissioning of two of these plants at the end of this month, including a 200 TPD biogas plant at Nangli-Sakrawati this weekend and the 100 TPD CBG plant at Ghogha Dairy,” said a senior MCD official. These initiatives signal a significant shift in Delhi’s wasteto-energy strategy, reducing landfill pressure while providing cost-effective, cleaner fuel alternatives for the capital.
