Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has directed that Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) land be split equally between rehabilitation units and for-sale buildings.
At a May 28 review meeting, he ordered rental tenement sizes for ineligible residents within the Dharavi notified area to be increased to 350 sq. ft., and for planned building residents from 405 sq. ft. to 500 sq. ft. He also instructed that the Dharavi twin digital survey model be applied to all Mumbai slums. The RTI-obtained minutes revealed these changes are to be incorporated in the DRP Master Plan, based on the 2016 Development Plan.
The state government has earmarked salt pan, dumping ground, and revenue lands outside Dharavi for rental housing. Those settled post-2011 till Nov 15, 2022, will get 300 sq. ft. rental homes, with an option to own after 10 years or via upfront payment.
