The Uttar Pradesh government has instructed local housing development authorities to expedite land aggregation for launching greenfield township schemes in multiple cities before the festive season.
“If the current momentum continues, the initiatives are likely to bring about a measurable shift in urban development,” officials noted. Targeted cities include Aligarh, Meerut, Jhansi, Mathura, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Firozabad, Bulandshahr, Banda, Ayodhya, Rampur, and Saharanpur. Over Rs 6,000 crore has been sanctioned for 30 township schemes, with higher allocations for Moradabad, Saharanpur, and Rampur. Introduced in 2023, the scheme follows a financing model where the state funds 50 percent of land acquisition costs, repayable by the respective authority over 20 years.
The Principal Secretary of the housing department recently held a review meeting to track progress and ensure timely execution. Some projects are expected to roll out by early autumn, with others launching closer to Diwali. By targeting high-demand urban areas and leveraging long-term financing, the initiative aims to deliver inclusive housing and spur socio-economic growth.
