The Maharashtra Transmission Committee (MTC) has approved Tata Power Company–Transmission’s (TPC-T) proposal to modernise the 110kV Bhivpuri-Ambernath-Kalyan corridor.
The project, formally titled “Upgradation and augmentation of existing 110kV Bhivpuri-Ambernath-Kalyan Corridor by replacing existing conductor by higher capacity conductor along with tower modification/replacement,” will enhance reliability and transmission capacity. The corridor spans approx. 67 km and will see the construction of 220kV multi-circuit towers to replace the current 110kV infrastructure.
The upgrade will be carried out in two phases — 20 km in the first and 47 km in the second, with commissioning targeted during FY29 (April 2028–March 2029). The total project cost is pegged at Rs 881 crore, including Rs 300 crore for Phase I and Rs 581 crore for Phase II. Although the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) mandates tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) for projects above Rs 200 crore, MTC has allowed TPC-T to proceed under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM), citing this as an asset upgradation, not a greenfield project.
