NMDC Steel (NSL) has achieved a significant operational milestone by producing over two million tonne of hot metal in FY25 at its integrated steel plant in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh. This output reflects a 100 percent increase compared to the 9,66,468 tonne produced in the previous financial year, which covered the plant’s first seven and a half months of operation post-commissioning on 15 August, 2023.
Reaching 60 percent of its rated 3.3 MTPA capacity in its second operational year, NSL is now poised to achieve full capacity within the current financial year. The performance underscores the company’s effective operational planning and its strategic intent to emerge as a key player in India’s industrial growth story.
NSL managed to market over 1.45 million tonne of Hot Rolled (HR) Coils and Sheets in FY25. March 2025 set a new benchmark for the company, with the highest-ever monthly dispatch of 2,29,874 tonne of HR coils since the start of operations. This record represents a 63 percent jump over the previous best of 1,41,207 tonne recorded in February 2025.
A critical driver of this performance was the use of four liberalized special freight train operator (LSFTO) rakes, which moved around 40,000 tonne during the month. In view of these logistics-driven gains, NSL now plans to scale up its LSFTO rake capacity to improve dispatch operations, boost supply chain reliability, and meet rising customer demand more efficiently.
