NTPC plans to add about 6,550 MW power capacity in the four southern states
by 2017. The company proposes to invest about Rs 32,750 crore for this purpose.
At present, NTPC generates 3,950 MW in the southern region while another
2,500 MW power plants are under construction.
NTPC is currently adding 1,000 MW (2x500 MW) at its existing 1,000 MW
Simhadri thermal power plant (Andhra Pradesh) with an investment of Rs 5,000
crore. The first unit is likely to be completed by end-fiscal and the second
unit is expected to commence production next fiscal.
