NTPC plans to commission four power projects with a total generation capacity
of over 1,500 MW by 2017 in Uttarakhand.
Two projects - the 600 MW
Loharinag Pala hydro electric project and the 520 MW
Tapovan Vishnugad hydel power project- are currently under construction.
Besides, land has been acquired for the 171 MW
Lata Tapovan hydro power project and the process is underway for the 261 MW
Rupsia Bhagar Khasia Bara hydro electric project.
The Tapovan Vishnugad project is likely to be commissioned by end-2012 and
the other three are expected to go on stream in the 12th Plan period. The
electricity generated from this project is to be sold to Punjab, Haryana and
Uttar Pradesh while Uttarakhand will get 12 per cent free power from this
project once it becomes operational.
