The Public Works Department (PWD) has launched the redevelopment of Delhi’s 55-km Mahatma Gandhi Road corridor, one of the city’s busiest routes, to decongest traffic and modernise transport infrastructure.

AECOM India has been tasked with preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the transformation, covering six phases from Azadpur and ISBT to DND Flyover, Moti Bagh, and Rajouri Garden. The project will integrate elevated stretches, redesigned intersections, and enhanced connectivity with metro and public transport networks.

PWD Minister Parvesh Verma said the initiative aims to make Delhi’s main corridor “smarter, safer, and faster.” The DPR, to be completed in 24 weeks, will include traffic, environmental, and social assessments, along with 3D models and phased execution plans.

The design emphasizes sustainability through pedestrian and cycle tracks, green materials, and smart lighting. Once complete, it is expected to reduce emissions and improve mobility citywide.
