Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar are set to review the timeline for the completion of the third line of Pune Metro from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, as the concessionaire has requested an extension till September 2025.
The original target for the 23-km corridor was March 2025, but delays have shifted key deadlines, including the integrated flyover segment from University Chowk to E-square junction, now expected to finish by April 2025. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) reported 74 percent overall project completion, with the integrated flyover at 65 percent. The flyover's completion is vital, as Metro operations cannot begin without it.
Some Metro stations between Maan and Balewadi Highstreet are expected to open by April 2025. However, constructing stations along University Chowk poses significant challenges, including road widening and removal of electricity poles. The government has directed Pune IT City Metro Rail to expedite flyover completion and traffic management to reduce inconvenience for commuters.
The project has received funding, with Rs 600 crore of the Rs 1,200 crore committed by the Centre already released, including a recent addition of Rs 200 crore as viability gap funding. The integrated flyover segment, spanning from University Chowk to E-square junction, was initially targeted for completion by December, and is now projected to finish only by March-end, 2025.
