Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stones and inaugurated multiple capacity-building projects at Visakhapatnam Port on 14 July, 2025, marking a total investment of over Rs 276 crore.
As part of the port’s expansion to enhance infrastructure and operational efficiency, the minister announced six new projects worth over Rs 116 crore. These include the construction of a B-Ramp within the port area (Rs 33.49 crore), a finger jetty and wharf at the fishing harbour (Rs 32.61 crore), and two additional breasting dolphins at the Outer Harbour Single Point Mooring Terminal (OSTT) (Rs 20.87 crore).
Other developments include a new ramp connecting the Ambedkar Centenary Flyover to the L-17 corridor (Rs 8.31 crore), a promenade near the cruise terminal (Rs 15.90 crore), and public toilet blocks at 15 locations (Rs 5.50 crore). “In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Visakhapatnam Port is undertaking expansion with investments exceeding Rs 276 crore.
These projects will modernise port infrastructure, improve cargo handling, and help position the port within global maritime networks,” said Sonowal. Additionally, the minister inaugurated infrastructure and digital upgrades worth Rs 159.96 crore.
