Steel Authority of India (SAIL), the Maharatna public sector steel producer, has supplied around 15,000 tonne of steel for the 51-km Bairabi–Sairang railway project in Mizoram, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 September, 2025.
Of this, nearly 10,000 tonne comprised high-grade R-260 Prime rails manufactured at the Bhilai Steel Plant, while about 5,000 tonne of plates, TMT, and structural steel came from SAIL’s Bokaro, Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur, and Burnpur plants. The project strengthens India’s connectivity drive in the Northeast, with SAIL’s supply demonstrating its role as a dependable partner in nation-building.
A SAIL official noted the company’s steel “provides the strength and quality needed for critical infrastructure.” SAIL has consistently supported transformative projects nationwide, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, Jiribam–Tupul–Imphal Broad Gauge, Atal Tunnel, Bandra–Worli Sea Link, Dhola Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges. Its involvement in the Bairabi–Sairang project reaffirms its legacy in powering India’s landmark infrastructure growth.
