Shravanabelagola railway station in Hassan district is likely to become the first carbon-neutral station in Karnataka.
The station’s entire energy requirements will be met through solar power. This will be the first railway station in the state under SWR to meet 100 percent energy needs. This is likely to materialise in another three to six months.
At Shravanabelagola station, 7.9 kWp solar panels have been installed and the plant was commissioned on 6 January 2022.
At present, it is operating in off-grid mode. It will be synchronised with the grid in three to six months.
Net/gross metering approval has been obtained from Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cescom). Twenty-four solar panels have been installed at the station.
