The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the large-scale redevelopment of 4,973 flats spread across 498 plots in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Nagar, Andheri (West), making it one of the biggest MHADA-led housing projects in Mumbai.
Chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the decision impacts over 2,600 families and 80+ housing societies. Originally allotted in 1993 under a World Bank project for Low and Middle Income Groups (LIG/MIG), SVP Nagar now includes 98 cooperative societies and several individual and high-income plots. While redevelopment work is already completed in seven societies, three are under construction, and six more have signed agreements.
MHADA will now focus on the remaining 82 societies. Many of the colony’s buildings are in poor condition, prompting this comprehensive plan to offer safer, modern living. The redevelopment aligns with BMC’s Development Control Regulations and will include residential, commercial, and recreational infrastructure. Green features like solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and waste management are also planned. A high-level committee will oversee the project execution.
