The Kerala government has approved the Phase 1 alignment of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project, marking a key milestone in transforming the state capital’s urban mobility.
To be executed by Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL), the 31-km Phase 1 corridor will connect major IT hubs, transport terminals, and administrative centres, easing congestion across the city. The route will link Technopark’s three phases, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and medical college, significantly improving connectivity for commuters. The alignment will include 27 stations from Pappanamcode to Eanchakkal, with three interchange stations at Kazhakoottam, Technopark Phase 1, and Karyavattom.
Additionally, KMRL has been entrusted with constructing flyovers at Sreekaryam, Ulloor, and Pattom to support traffic management. The Thiruvananthapuram Metro is expected to redefine Kerala’s capital development model, similar to the success of Kochi’s Water Metro, which enhanced connectivity, reduced pollution, and provided sustainable transport solutions for urban and suburban areas.
