The Maharashtra government has initiated a fresh survey to consider including Nashik and Nagpur in the second phase of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project.
The first phase, launched a decade ago, covered Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dighi port industrial areas. Nashik, originally in the plan, was excluded due to "technical reasons," State Industry Secretary P Anbalagan said during his Nashik visit. He added, "However, the primary challenge for these two locations is the availability of land and water for the proposed industrial projects." Industrial associations in Nashik have long urged the government for inclusion.
Currently, the DMIC is operational in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and tenders worth Rs 1,400 crore have been floated for infrastructure works at Dighi port. "Plots will be allotted to industries there once the infrastructural works are completed," P Anbalagan confirmed. The DMIC aims to build a globally competitive economic base with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
