Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced plans to develop worldclass AI infrastructure, beginning with a USD 6.5 billion investment in a one GW AI data centre in India.
This project matches the country’s current total installed data centre capacity and will be executed in phases over five to seven years. According to CEO Krithi Krithivasan, each 150 MW of compute power will cost USD one billion. The facility will support AI startups, deeptech firms, hyperscalers, and government clients, largely operating as a passive data centre. Revenue is expected to begin in 18–24 months.
The initiative signals a strategic pivot for TCS from traditional outsourcing to capital-intensive AI infrastructure, enabling it to provide full-stack AI solutions—from model training to secure India-based AI clouds. A new AI and Services Transformation unit, led by veteran Amit Kapur, will unify TCS’AI capabilities, supporting the Tata Group’s broader goal of a vertically integrated digital ecosystem.
