Tata Power has commissioned additional transmission lines between Kalwa and Salsette in Maharashtra.
The 200 kV transmission lines will enable the company to meet scarcity of power at its Trombay thermal plant.
The unavailability of natural gas to power plants has forced Tata Power's Trombay thermal plant to be underutilised or remain out since July 2013. This acute shortage of upto 500 MW capacity generation from Trombay for Mumbai city, has made it necessary for power to be imported from outside the city.
To reduce the critical loading of these lines, Tata Power proposed augmenting transmission lines between Kalwa and Salsette, to Maharashtra State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC), and to State Transmission Utility (STU).
In Phase-I, an additional interconnecting line has been commissioned as a short term measure which has also increased the load carrying capacity and which paves the way for further planned augmentation.
