The Uttar Pradesh government has approved Rs 1,187 crore for sewerage and water infrastructure projects in Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC), focusing on 18 wards in the Old City and the recently merged areas of Ramnagar and Sujabad.
Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari highlighted that securing this funding was a significant achievement after sustained efforts to improve basic amenities. The largest project, costing Rs 292 crore, will involve laying new water supply lines and sewer networks with house connections. For the Sujabad Domari area, a Rs 37 crore initiative will install pipelines for drinking water supply.
Additional proposals worth Rs 858.63 crore will develop water and sewerage lines in several wards, including Shivala, Nagwa, Bagahada, and others. These projects aim to benefit over seven lakh residents.
