On 23 October, 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah performed the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Rs 805-crore Shantipura–Khodiyar GIDC six-lane highway project in Sanand, Gujarat, aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting industrial growth.

The 28.8 km highway, to be developed by the Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC), will ease congestion on the current four-lane stretch that accommodates 43,000 vehicles daily. The project includes six-laning of the full route, 22.73 km of service roads, widening of 13 small bridges, a six-lane elevated flyover, a three-lane right-turn flyover, and five underpasses at key locations. Additionally, 172 culverts will be constructed or renovated to ensure uninterrupted link road connectivity.

The upgraded highway is expected to reduce travel time, improve fuel efficiency, enhance safety, and facilitate smoother access to major industrial and logistics hubs including Viramgam, Surendranagar, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, and Patan. The ceremony was attended by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries.
