On 27 February, 2024, the Uttarakhand government presented an annual budget of more than Rs 89,000 crore for financial year 2024-25 in the state assembly.
Out of the total outlay, the government has allocated Rs 55,815.77 crore for revenue expenditure and Rs 33,414.30 crore for capital expenditure. It has set aside Rs 1,404.30 crore for the Public Works Department (PWD) and Rs 917.47 crore for maintenance. The budget is scheduled to be passed by the state assembly on 01 March, 2024, following a discussion over the next few days.
The budget allocation focuses on the welfare of the poor, disaster mitigation, infrastructure development, and strengthening air connectivity in all districts. Furthermore, this will benefit people in distant hill locations by repairing all identified potentially hazardous bridges & trolleys and building crash barriers along stretches to prevent accidents.
The State Finance Minister Premchand Agarwal stated that this inclusive budget is aimed at building a developed, well-governed and capable state. Providing necessary furniture to all government schools, solar energy saturation systems in all government buildings in a phased manner, and e-office implementation in all government offices are also among the other priorities.
