ZF Wind Power, a division of global technology leader ZF Group, has inaugurated a 13.2 MW test rig in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, marking it as India’s largest facility for testing gearboxes and powertrains for wind turbines.
This state-of-the-art rig is designed to validate next-generation technologies under dynamic load conditions, enhancing reliability and performance of wind energy systems. The advanced test setup allows for real-time simulation of field conditions, including torque reversal cycles, which are critical for customer and certification approvals. The rig strengthens ZF’s ability to offer comprehensive solutions — from R&D to validation, for both Indian and global requirements.
The company has also announced plans to establish a cold chamber test facility, further boosting its full-cycle capabilities. To date, ZF Wind Power India has supplied 60 GW worth of wind gearbox capacity from Coimbatore, underlining its global impact.
