German energy supplier E.ON and Norwegian energy company Equinor in the German Baltic Sea have officially launched the Arkona offshore wind power plant on 16 April 2019.

The wind power project is located in the German Exclusive Economic Zone in the Baltic Sea.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) executed works including the installation and commissioning of 60 SWT-6.0-154 direct drive offshore wind turbines. The construction work was carried out in a record time of only five months between June and October 2018 and the installation of turbines completed in around three months.

The Arkona wind power plant has a total capacity of 385 MW and will supply around 4,00,000 average German households with electricity annually.

The Siemens Gamesa installed and commissioned the turbines in an area covering 39 sq km on monopile foundations at water depths between 23 mtr and 37 mtr.

The company has applied its 24/ONE concept in which a turbine is installed within 24 hours.

All the works at sea were carried out along with the developer from the port of Sassnitz-Mukran.
