L&T Construction and L&T Infotech, both subsidiaries of Larsen & Toubro, have been selected for a surveillance project in Mumbai city.
L&T companies emerged as the lowest bidders for the project, with a quote of Rs 950 crore. Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services was another company in the fray by being among the lowest bidders. As per the order, L&T Construction and L&T Infotech will install about 6,000 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the metro.
The CCTV cameras installed will be closely monitored. Also, an emergency number along the lines of the 911 services in the US is planned to be set up.
This is the fourth attempt by the Maharashtra state government to seek bids for the project, following three failed attempts previously. The government has decided to strengthen surveillance in the metro by installing CCTVs.
