The board of directors of Petronet LNG has
approved the setting up of an LNG import and regasification terminal at Kochi in
Kerala. The project planned five years ago could not be taken up due to
uncertainty of gas demand from Kerala.
The proposed LNG terminal would have an initial
handling capacity of 2.5 million tpa of LNG (10 mmscmd of gas) and would entail
an investment of Rs.2,000 crore.
The board also cleared the expansion project of
the existing LNG terminal at Dahej in Gujarat; the capacity of which would be
increased to 10 million tpa by 2008 at an investment of Rs.1,000 crore.
