Bharat Heavy Electricals, on 26 June
2006, announced the winning of a major contract for setting up 230 kV
substations on EPC basis in Bangladesh. The contract for supply and installation
of a 230 kv substation at Baghabari power plant and extension of a 230 kv at
Ishurdi was won amidst competition from Chinese, Malaysian and other Indian
companies, according to a company statement.
Valued at Rs.55 crore, the Asian
Development Bank-funded contract has been placed on BHEL by Power Grid Co of
Bangladesh. This is the first order for BHEL for substations in Bangladesh.
BHEL’s scope of work in the project
includes design, supply, erection, civil construction and commissioning of a 230
kV substation at Baghabari and expansion of Ishurdi substation.
Earlier, BHEL has successfully
executed several contracts in Bangladesh including the turnkey execution of a
100 MW Gas Turbine based power plant at Baghabari, which is operating
successfully since commissioning.
