Bharat Heavy Electricals, on 19 July
2006, announced the winning of its second order from Ethiopian Electric Power Corpn. (EEPCO) for
setting up 230 kV substations on EPC
basis.
The order valued at around Rs.46 crore
is being financed by the Kuwait Fund. The contract agreement for this project, signed
between BHEL and EEPCO, is part of an electrification programme initiated by the
Ethiopian Government in the Afar state of Ethiopia.
BHEL's scope of work in the project
includes design, supply, erection, civil construction and commissioning of 230
kV Semera and Dichoto substations. The substations is scheduled for completion
within 18 months. After completion of these projects substations will provide 24
hours power supply to 382 towns in Afar state.
In August 2005, BHEL had won
a similar
contract from EEPCO, which also marked BHEL's entry into that country.
