The consortium of the Siemens and its
German parent, Siemens AG, bagged an order worth Rs.4,000 crore from Qatar
General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) for development of Phase
VII of the electrical grid in Qatar. The
sub-stations are to be built in cities like Doha, Ras Laffan and Maesaeed.
The scope of work includes supply of
25 new substations of voltages 220 kV/132 kV/66 kV in addition to extension of
14 substations and renovation of 10 substations. All substations will be
installed with cutting-edge electrical power equipments and substation
automation systems supplied in-house by Siemens. The project is scheduled
for completion within 22 months. The share of Siemens in the order will be
Rs.3,600 crore or 90 per cent.
This order is the largest ever won by
Siemens. In 2005-06, Siemens, once again with its German parent, had won two
orders from KAHRAMAA, valued at Rs.2,600 crore. Of these contracts, Phase V has
already been commissioned and Phase VI is underway.
