Work on 10 highway projects in Karnataka will commence by the end of December 2015, according to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping.
The projects are:- Hosapete-Chitradurga, Hosapete-Ballari, Hassan-BC Road, Shivamogga-Mangaluru, Ankola-Hubballi, Hubballi-Hosapete, Vijayapura-Kalaburagi-Humnabad, Dindigul-Bengaluru, Nelamangala-Tumakuru, Chitradurga -Haveri.
The proposed projects are expected to cost Rs 10,000 crore and will be cement roads.
Nitin Gadkari announced this at the foundation stone laying event of the two NHAI projects. The projects are development and upgradation of Vijayapura-Kalaburagi-Humnabad section of NH-218 (new NH-50) to two-lane with paved shoulders from km 195 to km 418 under NHDP Phase IV, and rehabilitation and upgradation to two-lane and two-lane with paved shoulders from Madhugiri-Gowribidanur-Chikaballapur-Chintamani-Mulbagal section of NH-234 (new NH-69) from km 343.8 to km 483.151 under Phase-I of NHIP.
The government is also eyeing an option of connecting Chennai with Bengaluru by expressway.
The Road Ministry will also explore viable options of the problems faced in the conversion of state highway beteen Mysuru-Bengaluru into a national highway project due to allotment of land to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE). The project will cost Rs 2,400 crore.
