The Union government has handed over 53.174 acres of salt pan land to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on a 99-year lease worth Rs 12.9 crore, in a major step for the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road (DBLR) project.
The move comes two years after BMC awarded a tender for the road’s construction. The Salt Commissioner, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued a notice earlier this year formalising the lease. The Ministry specified that the land is solely for the DBLR and cannot be transferred to any other entity, with any legal cases or compensation issues to be handled by the transferee agency.
Once completed in three years, the DBLR will significantly reduce commute time from Nariman Point to Mira Bhayandar, providing a major boost to Mumbai’s road infrastructure.
