On September 21, Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna inaugurated the long-awaited Bow String Girder Bridge at Indrali, Udupi, to ease traffic congestion on the busy Udupi–Manipal corridor.
The bridge, part of National Highway 169A, spans the Mangaluru–Mumbai railway line and is expected to significantly improve daily commutes for students, residents, and tourists. Home to educational hubs like Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and religious sites such as Sri Krishna Math, the region experiences heavy daily traffic. Until now, the absence of a second bridge had turned the widened highway into a bottleneck, especially along a 700-mtrs. stretch between MGM College and Indrali.
The steel bow string girder bridge was assembled and slid into place in May, with final concretisation completed before the September inauguration. Public demand and intervention by Udupi–Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary helped fast-track the project.
