The Central government has approved the Amaravati-Hyderabad Greenfield Expressway, a major infrastructure project aimed at drastically reducing travel time between the two cities.
According to reports, the Centre has assured full financial backing for the Amaravati-Hyderabad Expressway, including funding for land acquisition. The total cost for the project is estimated at approx. Rs 25,000 crore. The expressway will feature six lanes and bypass current road networks to enhance connectivity and efficiency.
On 09 April, 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Ministry of Roads, Transport, and Highways (MoRTH) to begin preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the expressway. Additionally, a roadmap is to be drawn up for the development of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in northern Telangana.
This decision follows a high-level meeting held on 03February, chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, which brought together top officials from 15 departments including roads and transport, steel, agriculture, petroleum, and railways. The Ministry has also requested updates on pending initiatives under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and instructed the Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to develop a comprehensive roadmap for these ongoing projects.
