The Central government has approved Rs 436.18 crore for constructing a 3.877 km elevated corridor and grade separator connecting Indira Gandhi Square with Rajiv Gandhi Square along NH-66 (New NH-32).
This four-lane project, developed entirely within the existing Right of Way, includes a 1.821 km elevated structure designed to ease congestion on one of Puducherry’s busiest roads. Ramps will provide direct access to Villupuram (NH-332), Tindivanam (NH-32), and the city bus stand, ensuring smoother travel across multiple routes. The corridor aims to reduce travel time, improve connectivity, and enhance traffic flow on NH-32 and adjoining highways.
Emphasizing safety, the project incorporates pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, and service lanes for better accessibility. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a 46 km four-lane stretch on NH-332A between Marakkanam and Puducherry, further strengthening regional connectivity and access to key economic centres and logistics hubs.
