The Centre has issued a notification for land acquisition for the long-awaited Mohali-Rajpura railway line, a project poised to improve rail connectivity between Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana.
The 18.11 km line, costing Rs 443 crore, will connect Mohali to Rajpura, easing congestion on existing routes and facilitating faster freight and passenger transport. The Ministry of Railways has requested Punjab's cooperation in acquiring 53.84 hectares across Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Mohali districts. The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits, reducing travel time and boosting industries, especially in agriculture and trade.
DC (Mohali), Komal Mittal, confirmed, "Once the final alignment plan is received, we will proceed with land acquisition." The new line will enhance regional integration and open up opportunities for trade, tourism, and industrial growth.
