The Ministry of Railways has approved the upgradation of the electric traction system in two key railway sections - Medchal–Mudkhed (225 km) and Mahbubnagar–Dhone (184 km).
The total cost for these upgrades is Rs 193.26 crore and Rs 122.81 crore, respectively. The upgrade will boost the electric traction capacity from 1X25 KV to 2X25 KV, involving modifications to circuit breakers, switching stations, and the installation of additional conductors. These sections, connecting Northern and Southern India via Hyderabad, will benefit from improved speed and efficiency in train operations.
The new system will reduce voltage drops and stabilise supply, allowing both passenger and freight trains to operate more smoothly. The project spans parts of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra. This effort is part of the larger Manmad-MudkhedDhone project, aimed at providing seamless railway operations.
