Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has initiated consultancy contracts to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for two major network extensions aimed at boosting urban connectivity.
The first involves a seven-km stretch of Corridor 4 from Lighthouse to High Court, enhancing access along Marina Beach and to government offices, including the Secretariat, serving both daily commuters and tourists. The second proposes a new 21-km corridor linking Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, and Velachery to Guindy Metro Station on Corridor 1, integrating southern suburbs with the core network and enabling multimodal connectivity at key hubs.
CMRL has appointed Systra MVA Consulting India to prepare DPRs for both projects, with contracts valued at Rs 38.2 lakh and Rs 96.2 lakh respectively. The studies, to be completed in 120 days, will assess route alignment, ridership potential, multimodal integration, and technical feasibility. The agreements were formalised in the presence of MA Siddique, Managing Director, T Archunan, Director (Projects), and Parveen Kumar, Senior Vice President, Systra MVA Consulting.
