The Delhi-Jammu Railway Corridor, spanning 600 km, has advanced as land acquisition begins in Punjab and Haryana. Aimed at improving interstate connectivity, the project is expected to boost regional economies and modernise railway infrastructure.
The Indian Railways has completed its alignment survey, with the final survey layout (FSL) submitted to the Ambala Divisional Railway Manager. Passing through Haryana and Punjab, the railway will enhance transportation between Delhi, Ambala, Jalandhar, and Jammu, reducing travel time and easing congestion. The project involves acquiring thousands of acres of land. The final approval rests with the Railway Board, but preliminary work is already in progress.
A Pune-based firm conducted the survey in three phases from April 2024, covering Delhi to Ambala, Ambala to Jalandhar, and Jalandhar to Jammu. Findings were submitted to railway divisions in Delhi, Ambala, and Jalandhar, with each division managing its 200-km section.
Expected to enhance passenger and freight transport, the corridor will provide an efficient alternative to road transport, reducing travel time and facilitating trade across North India and Jammu & Kashmir.
