Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M Appavu and Tirunelveli District Collector R. Sukumar inaugurated the work to provide drinking water connections to 12,099 houses in Thisaiyanvilai town panchayat under the Tamirabharani Combined Drinking Water Scheme.
Implemented at a cost of Rs 423.13 crore, the project will benefit Kalakkad municipality and seven town panchayats — Ervadi, Thirukkurungudi, Nanguneri, Panagudi, Moolaikaraipatti, Thisaiyanvilai, and Valliyoor — in Nanguneri and Radhapuram constituencies. “Since 70% of this drinking water project has been completed, we hope that the beneficiary families will start getting drinking water from October this year,” Speaker Appavu said. Each resident is expected to receive 135 litres per day once operational.
Following Thisaiyanvilai, connection works will commence in the other towns. Also, road repairs damaged during pipeline laying will be undertaken after commissioning. .
