Indian Railways has commissioned the nation’s longest railway viaduct, the Katni Grade Separator, in Madhya Pradesh at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore.
Spanning 33.40 km, the project consists of a 15.85 km up grade separator, now operational, and a 17.52 km down grade separator, which is still under construction. Officials emphasised that modern technology, advanced machinery, and high-quality materials were used to build the structure.
The Railway Safety Commissioner of Central Circle (Mumbai), Manoj Arora, conducted a detailed safety inspection of the newly built section between Katangi Khurd and New Majhgawan Gate. His assessment included crucial components such as bridge layout, girders, bearings, ballast, sleepers, glued joints, overhead equipment, level crossings, and track geometry.
The project is being supervised by WCR General Manager Shobhna Bandopadhyay, who has been directly overseeing execution and quality control. Once the down separator is complete, the Katni viaduct will serve as a critical infrastructure link, enhancing safety, efficiency, and connectivity for freight and passenger movement in central India.
