Larsen & Toubro’s wholly-owned subsidiary, L&T Energy Greentech has signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation to set up a 300 KTPA green ammonia project at Kandla, Gujarat.
Under the pact, the companies will work together to develop and commercialise the facility, with ITOCHU planning to offtake the product for bunkering applications in Singapore. The partnership is aimed at accelerating clean energy adoption in the maritime sector. Last year, L&T had acquired a substantial land parcel at Kandla to establish green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.
Hiroyuki Tsubai, Executive Vice President and President of ITOCHU’s Machinery Company, stated, “Through this joint development, our initiatives to introduce low-carbon ammonia to the maritime sector as an alternative zero-emission fuel will be reinforced.”
He added that Kandla would become the principal production hub for ITOCHU’s Singapore bunkering operations. L&T said the alliance reflects its broader vision of driving sustainable business practices and contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
