Thane is set to see a major leap in public transportation with the launch of the Rs 12,200 crore Thane Internal Ring Metro project, approved by the Union Cabinet in August 2024.
This 29-km Metro corridor, scheduled for construction next month, will form a loop around the city’s western belt, connecting key hubs like Wagle Estate, Manpada, and Thane Junction. The metro network will include 22 stations, with 20 elevated and two underground, linking locations such as Thane Junction, Gandhi Nagar, and Patlipada. Expected to serve 6.47 lakh passengers daily by 2029, the Metro aims to ease traffic congestion, reduce emissions, and provide an eco-friendly alternative to road travel.
Expected to be operational by 2029, this project will enhance connectivity, benefiting Thane’s residents and commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Keywords: Thane, Metro, Maha Metro, Public Transport, Green Mobility
