Torrent Power has received a letter of award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company (MPPMCL) for developing a 1,600 MW coal-based ultra-supercritical thermal power project in Madhya Pradesh.
The project will be executed on the design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) model and supply the entire capacity to MPPMCL under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) at a tariff of 5.829 Rs/kWh. Coal will be arranged by MPPMCL under the Ministry of Coal’s SHAKTI Policy.
The greenfield project, consisting of two 800 MW units, represents Torrent Group’s single largest investment in the power sector, estimated at Rs 22,000 crore. Commissioning is planned within 72 months. Expected to generate employemnt for 8,000–10,000 persons during construction, and another 1,500 during operations, the plant will employ ultra-supercritical technology for higher efficiency and reduced emissions.
